I have tried to make my life easier and am attempting to help you and yours with free printable items, links to other bilingual blogs, ESL sites and tips to things that I've found helpful in this crazy thing I call my life! Life in Engspanolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18087179790394126906noreply@blogger.comBlogger35125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2946118647770764061.post-25967616210043381842015-06-18T13:05:00.000-04:002015-06-18T13:05:19.621-04:00Bilingual and/or Multi-Cultural Character's Free Printable Round-Up! <div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
It's Summer. Our kids are bored, and unless you have a DVR you may be stuck watching that <b>same</b> Dora DVD for weeks at a time!!! Thank goodness for the internet and <a href="http://youtube.com/" target="_blank">YouTube</a> and it's search function that let's us find older episodes, or at least partial ones, that aren't the same 6 from that last years Birthday gift disc! <br />
<br />
<br />
I know that in my house my son has "friends" that live inside that TV and the "aputer" (Computer. My son is 2.) I have been so blessed that he is still into the "good guys", Dora, Maya & Miguel, Handy Manny, The Backyardigans, and Pocoyo. He never really watches an entire episode, but if he can't hear to know that it's still on...you know, in case he wants to go back to it! I have hand picked these, and several others to be his "Go-to" shows. These are some of my top pics for my multi-cultured, bi-lingual child. We watch these (on the television) on several different channels, but my channels aren't likely to be yours, I will make a list of the big name companies that own the rights to these and that should make them easier for you to look up in your local, or providers listings directly under the characters photo's below along with the show name.<br />
<br />
I am getting side tracked! :) (It happens to me a lot!...Look, butterfly!...happened again!)<br />
<br />
Okay, the theme of this post is to list some printable activities that include some of the most favorited characters in my house and what I assume to be big hits is all of our great Spanish-English community. So that for those times when your little can't be "with" Handy Manny, he/she can still be playing with them! (My son is learning the art of scribbling...coloring is play!) <br />
<br />
Okay, so just find the picture of the character(s) below and click on the name/line below it and it should take you to a magical place (or website) that will allow you to print out coloring pages for free of that character and/or parts from popular episodes! (NOTE: many of these pages will have links to other characters/shows, and/or activities if you want to poke around, have fun it...I did!)<br />

Recently I was inside small business close to where I live. I saw something that really got my attention. There were two hand drawn signs. One was for showing where the fire extinguisher was. (I have said before that we have a large Hispanic population where I live in my small Kentucky ((USA)) town, yes?) This sign consist of one large arrow and the words in both English and Spanish for "FIRE EXTINGUISHER". I also saw a sign while I was inside the small hallway that lead to the restrooms (and some other unknown-to-me room...maybe a storage room?) and this sign had a swirly mark and read, "TORNADO SHELTER/TORNADO REFUGIO". <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Funny enough, this is not a place that I have noticed having a lot of "Spanish speaking" customers. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was happy to see that the owner/operators cared enough to mark safety items/places in both languages especially considering that the need didn't seem that great.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I asked the lady at the register why they needed those signs in both languages (I just wanted to hear what she had to say.) She told me, "We think that safety comes first! I don't care what language you speak if you can help put out a fire, or if you need to get to away from a tornado!" She was quite excited about it and almost seemed offended that I had even asked! I liked that! She then went on to tell me (still quite excitedly) that even if someone chose not to follow the signs to the shelter area, at least they would know to get out of the way! And that no one wanted to burned alive! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
At this point I smiled, agreed with her and thanked her (and the owner through her) for their thoughtfulness and told her that I had never seen this kind of all inclusive community positiveness around here! Being from a bi-lingual family and having friends and loved ones (related or not) that may possibly need to be in on the emergency stuffs, and just on the chance that these signs might be needed...they posted them, they now have a shopper for life in me! Way to go small business!!! (After this is posted I will invite the store owner/operator that inspired this post to read this and if they chose to be named I will gladly post their name, for they are pioneers around these parts!!!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I then wanted to see about printing off some nice clear copies and laminating them up for these folks and making up a few more to offer for free around town (at least the fire extinguisher ones, not every place has a tornado shelter.) I went first to the good old internet for some free copy. I am thoughtful, but cheap! What did I find that I could download and/or print for free in these two categories? NOTHING.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Not surprised, I have been there before as some of my older post show. And if I can't find...I create it! And I can not in good conscience not offer this up for free! I have this site and it needs to serve a purpose. So, in the art of paying it forward (the Lord is good to me and has blessed me with a time and tools to create what would help me and mine....I shall in return share these things with you and yours!) :) If these free printable signs help save ONE person....just one, then they have served their purpose! And who knows? It may just start a wave that gets others attentions, and they might just post their own signs, hence maybe saving MORE lives!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Without further ado, I am listing these two bi-lingual signs that I created below. Just click the links below the pictures and they will direct you to the printable versions. These can also be downloaded for future use. </div>

Come See The New Face Of LIFE IN ENGSPANOL!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
I had to take a break for a while, but I am back. And like my life needed a little reworking to make it right, so did the site! :)<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We (it's only me, but it just looks less sad to write "we") here at Life In Engspanol felt the need to change up the place a little. Make it easier and faster to load, and hopefully with a little less distraction from the background. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Remove the tape, cut the rope, we are re-opened!!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Know that I will be actively posting again. I will be sharing as well as creating more bilingual goodies to help with day-to-day life and will go back to using this as my venting place. All back to normal..right? :)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thanks to those of you who continued to visit through my time away, and just know that the best of ENGSPANOL is yet to come! </div>

Okay folks. I keep seeing what are probably the ugliest (possible) truths about any (USA) holiday ever since Columbus Day! These truths are about Thanksgiving. I was not there at the first Thanksgiving, I am not sure what really happened. But the tradition of Thanksgiving day at my house has always been a day of giving thanks, and recalling happy stories (which may be a lie, I don't really know) of Pilgrims and Indians sharing turkey and deer, and corn on the cob...and eating and being thankful for healthy harvests, life and new friends, etc.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR9HOIKiC8r934AvBbgllfd-fL-TKkqNbp-oJb90E9AxAyRCrpW58-rDJ1UXVctqv4CiNWOQ_QqVNVoyWQWi0mKLac1of8kYUv9dE10E8dCMY9D6ynqprW1WGhasxdvit0sPdHu7lgFJA/s1600/turkeydaypicture.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR9HOIKiC8r934AvBbgllfd-fL-TKkqNbp-oJb90E9AxAyRCrpW58-rDJ1UXVctqv4CiNWOQ_QqVNVoyWQWi0mKLac1of8kYUv9dE10E8dCMY9D6ynqprW1WGhasxdvit0sPdHu7lgFJA/s1600/turkeydaypicture.jpg" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This tradition will still be celebrated in my home, at least the being thankful part, and eating!<br />
<br />
My husband (who if you have read many of past posts you will know was born/raised in Mexico) who has been here for 17 years (and counting) is still not really sure why we have to pick ONE DAY a year to be grateful on, and just what is it that we are so grateful for on this ONE DAY anyway?!?<br />
<br />
So, I thought about this. I am grateful every day, but if there's a special day for it then that's cool with me. Point blank, it's one SPECIAL day for showing our thanks. And with a firm, "Because I said so." we are making progress.<br />
<br />
One down.<br />
<br />
Now, what am I so grateful for? Simple enough. Everything! <br />
<br />
But I made a list:<br />
<br />
My family is healthy. (Or healthy enough, there are many worse off than we, please pray for them with us.)<br />
<br />
We have collectively two wonderful son's and two grandchildren who are bright and lovely and beautiful...etc. (I won't make you suffer my bragging rants!)<br />
<br />
We are not without a roof, or a floor for that matter. (I've had it much worse and there are those out in the cold or worse, please remember them in your prayers also.)<br />
<br />
We are not hungry when we lay down at night. (So very many are and again, we must remember to pray for them.)<br />
<br />
Jesus is our savior, and our protector and our gateway to his/our Father! (This should have been #1!)<br />
<br />
...the list goes on and on.<br />
<br />
He's still not getting it though. We thank God for these things every day (as we should!) <br />
<br />
Hold up! There it is!<br />
<br />
This is not a day for us about what happened years ago. This is a special day for thanking the Lord for all that he provides us! :)<br />
<br />
It just so happens that in Mexico there is a holiday (the Sunday before Advent, which is also the Sunday before Thanksgiving here) called "Solemnidad de Cristo Rey" or in English, "Christ the King Day". <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdhyC093KoeNTtrs1lKkpUE_WGULDA17rmBFrv7tCF__dlSEqk-s0jYvXjqhbTtc0dmLQpPeKD-rs6aerw7rj4E7MlbvV2gO5QHrd75gXvv0zWO9j1qEwiSugSftqLWg2O_DigbK4L404/s1600/vivicristorey.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Cristo Rey, Solemnidad de Cristo Rey" border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdhyC093KoeNTtrs1lKkpUE_WGULDA17rmBFrv7tCF__dlSEqk-s0jYvXjqhbTtc0dmLQpPeKD-rs6aerw7rj4E7MlbvV2gO5QHrd75gXvv0zWO9j1qEwiSugSftqLWg2O_DigbK4L404/s1600/vivicristorey.jpg" title="Christ is King" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I am adding a link here so that you may learn more about this, and I strongly encourage you to Google it for even more information: <a href="http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/mexico/christ-the-king-day" target="_blank">Celebrate Christ the King Day</a> It will open to a new page automatically and you can just toggle back here when you're done. :)<br />
<br />
Okay, my hubby gets this. This makes sense to him. It's not something that his family celebrated, but it make sense! <br />
<br />
Let's do this!<br />
<br />
I am excited!<br />
<br />
So, this year my family is celebrating what I am calling "Thanks To Our Savior, Christ the King Day", or in Spanish, "Gracias a nuestro Salvador, Cristo el Rey Día"! We will be celebrating our day of thanks on the Sunday before Advent, just as they do in Central Mexico (for tradition and practicality) and we will gladly raise our hearts and voices in gratitude for all of the blessings that we are graced with throughout the entire year (and even the years before it and hopefully those to come!)<br />
<br />
We cordially invite you to take part in this mixed-cultured giving of thanks with us in your homes!!<br />
<br />

Happy Grandparents Day!<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
Today is September 7, 2014 and it is National Grandparents Day! Thank you to my grandparents for setting into motion the lives that later come together to make me...and thus to make my own child. <br />
<br />
I am the product of a young marriage and a quick divorce not long afterwards, add in step-parents and BAM lots of grandparents for me! I want to thank them all! For each and everyone of them, oven the ones that passed before I could know them. For in one way or another they shaped my life.<br />
<br />
THANKS GRANDPARENTS!<br />
<br />
<br />
</b></span><br />

As September drawls nearer we are are running out of time to mail things internationally. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This year (2014) National Grandparents day falls on Sept. 7. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(It is on a different calendar day each year, I think.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
If your child is like many that I know, they may have grandparents abroad. I know that this is a U.S.A holiday, but if your children are here aren't there feelings for their grandparents just as important no matter where the grandparents may be?!? For that matter, they may be here in grand ol' U.S. and only read/comprehend Spanish or would just like a reminder that the old country is not forgotten. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
My in-laws have both passed from this world long ago, so my son won't be sending this card. But it is with respect to them both I have created this bilingual (Spanish/English) "Happy Grandparents Day" card that is simply click, print, cut, and fold.</div>

There seems to be a thousand free printable backpack tags that are in English, or have some cute design, but say nothing, having only a blank spot for a name to go. (Yes, I am bored enough to randomly Google search things just to know if something exists or not...What?!?)<br />
<br />
Anyhow, I couldn't find any bilingual and/or ones "en espanol".<br />
<br />
So, I made some.<br />
<br />
There are 4 sets of each per page. If a person were to print them and place them blank side-to-blank side then there will be a proper tag, view-able from both sides. <br />
<br />
<br />
There are two pages, one that was girl-inspired, one that was boy-inspired. (We don't judge here...your child(ren) should have whatever design that they like. Please do not let my general labels limit your child's choices!) <br />
<br />
:)<br />

<br />
*NOTE* Many backpacks now come with that little dangly plastic sheath to slip in a tag (like luggage has.) Some, however do not. These can be bought for fairly cheap in the luggage selling area at most general merchants (Wal-Mart, etc.)<br />
<br />

<br />
**UPDATE**<br />
<br />
I failed to give credit where credit was due earlier...I am sorry. Okay; though I put these little things together by sizing them and giving them back grounds and name blanks there are only two "character's" that are my own art work on these tags. The owl on the branch is my own work, as is the pink flower. All other themes/characters were grabbed from<a href="http://www.clipartonline.net/" target="_blank"> Clip Art On Line</a>. Thanks guys! :)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Okay, beings that I have already created it I saw no reason not to share it here. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This sign is more than likely going to be used outside, which means that it needs to be weather proof. Lamination is the most obvious way to retain color (the sun will still bleach it over time, I suggest downloading the image when you go to print, or bookmarking this page for reprints when needed) and protect paper signs from the elements in general. However, not everyone has a laminating machine or wants to pay some printing shop to laminate a free sign. I have that covered!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
A clear (at least on one side) gallon sized freezer/storage baggie is wider than this printout, but just a tad shorter. NO PROBLEM! This baggie, with a little (very little) work can act as a plastic coating almost as well as lamination (maybe not as classy, but it works great in a pinch or on a budget!), and it can be doubled for more strength. I do recommend using two baggies! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Directions for "laminating" this sign with gallon sized baggies:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
THINGS NEEDED:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
*print out of sign</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
*(2) 1 gallon sized zip-close freezer baggies per sign</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
*scissors</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
*tape</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 1: Take the printed out sign and trim off the excess white along the sided (skimming the sides of top and bottom bones)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEjiITQhItDHhkAqcnA6KzE7xfdZ-_ZSevOIvQoKPgradpEfD6OkdDMy9nOnlH9gZ-tjN9lH2baeIbWkrSXJaqX7zc6ZQZjh_-xv7oNyCIee3ATSGjcg_wbQbsYK3HkTD5HKKpvEy9mkI/s1600/CAM02043.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEjiITQhItDHhkAqcnA6KzE7xfdZ-_ZSevOIvQoKPgradpEfD6OkdDMy9nOnlH9gZ-tjN9lH2baeIbWkrSXJaqX7zc6ZQZjh_-xv7oNyCIee3ATSGjcg_wbQbsYK3HkTD5HKKpvEy9mkI/s1600/CAM02043.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(Here I have trimmed one side. It will fit in the baggie now, but I liked the look of both sides trimmed. It's up to you how much you trim, just make sure to trim it enough to fit into the bag.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 2. Slip sign into baggie. (Make sure that the face/front of sign can be read through the baggie, cheaper store brands seem to have clearer bags, but use what you have as long as you can still easily see/read the sign.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 3. Flatten with your hand to remove air. Seal baggie.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 4. Fold baggie around the sign for a snug fit and tape the extra plastic to the back of sign (making the baggie the size of the sign.) </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Step 5. (this one is optional) repeat steps 2-4 by putting the filled first bag into the second bag (this is just for sturdiness) and following said directions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now it is ready to be hung on a fence, or door, or stapled to a post or stake...whatever you do with outside signs.. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PS. This kind of baggie laminating can be used on my other signs as well...I'll link to them below.</div>

The 4th of July has come again! Today we eat watermelon, grill out, watch fireworks, and rejoice in the freedoms that we do have!<br />
<br />
I hear all of the time about how our country is turning communist and our government has taken away all of our rights...it may well be headed that way, only God knows the truth of it; but as long as I can sit here and type what I just did to put out on a public forum (and be a woman to boot)...we still have many more liberties than many! <br />
<br />
Thank you founding fathers for setting us free from a ruler who gave us no voice, and taxed is greatly. Thank you founding fathers for trying to put together an iron clad contract to serve the people as a whole. Thank you founding fathers for standing up for us one and all! Today is about you and all of those things that you did to ensure that we do at least have the freedoms that we do today! <br />
<br />
...Once more, I say, "Thank you!"<br />

Let's start with a vocabulary lesson:<br />
<br />
cog·nate<br />
ˈkägˌnāt/Submit<br />
adjective<br />
1.<br />
LINGUISTICS<br />
(of a word) having the same linguistic derivation as another; from the same original word or root (e.g., English is, German ist, Latin est, from Indo-European esti ).<br />
<br />
<i>cog · nate </i><br />
<i>KAG ˌ NAT / Enviar </i><br />
<i>adjetivo </i><br />
<i>1. </i><br />
<i>LINGÜÍSTICA </i><br />
<i>(de una palabra) que tiene la misma derivación lingüística como otro; de la misma palabra original o raíz (por ejemplo, el Inglés es, ist alemán, est América, desde esti indoeuropea).</i><br />
<i><br /></i>
(Thank you Google for the definition and the translation!)<br />
<br />
For those of us who have a really hard time learning either Spanish (for English speaking folks) or English (for those who speak Spanish) but do not have that much trouble with "Spanglish" this makes all of that make sense! :)<br />
<br />
Many of our words have common roots, or simply sound enough alike for us to understand these "cognate" words outside of our own language. <br />
<br />
I have found some great help in learning some of these words. There are great for children and early learners and those speak minimal of either said language (Eng/Esp).<br />
<br />
I was at bilingualteacherclubhouse.com today and ran across a post from Ana over at Ingles360 that linked me to her page and this great download link list for SP/EN flash cards, mazes, matching games, memory cards and more! Find it here --> <a href="http://ingles360.blogspot.com.ar/2012/10/teaching-cognates.html" target="_blank">INGLES360</a> (If you scroll past the pictures you will see a little floweredy box that is the direct link to the downloads page.)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbaq64WzWbXZ9FU3Uy4rWDjoGOHh_bh90UAmmp-asTI8G_Wr-Ly3Tgl0ZVsVl3BmoDQL1doFWYtCjHHeYF8_wdeIv6xR3sEK7WRSPd2LMwyn67hAyFPm73xgw4VCBXDXExfrb9hbXkMlA/s1600/cognados+preview.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbaq64WzWbXZ9FU3Uy4rWDjoGOHh_bh90UAmmp-asTI8G_Wr-Ly3Tgl0ZVsVl3BmoDQL1doFWYtCjHHeYF8_wdeIv6xR3sEK7WRSPd2LMwyn67hAyFPm73xgw4VCBXDXExfrb9hbXkMlA/s1600/cognados+preview.jpg" height="239" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Then for those of you who may just want a simple list with side-by-side comparisons (and that you can print without using colored ink) I have found this very simply designed wealth of awesome-sauce 3 page list from ColorinColorado.org. It is no nonsense and ready for printing directly from the link listed at the end of this paragraph and I am going to be using this one with the hubby! Find it here --> <b><a href="http://www.waunakee.k12.wi.us/newsfile18985_1.pdf" target="_blank">Colorin Colorado</a>. (</b>This one is just right click and press print if your browser doesn't just offer up a printer icon.)<br />

Okay, for me this was a two-for-one project. This is a game that helps to teach commonly found shapes (circle, oval, square, rectangle, and triangle), but it also teaches a few words along the way. I love multi-subject teaching/learning tools!<br />

The top picture is page one. Page one is the focal page. By studying the shapes, and leaving them (page 1) available to view, the player goes from pages 2-5 (one at a time) and matches the shapes from page one by pointing out the circle (or whatever the shape may be that they are needing to recognize) and saying not only the name of the shape (in English and Spanish), if the "thing" that is the shape has a name (the mirror is "mirror" and "espejo") then that is to be said too. Some (probably most) players may not be at reading level to do this alone. Not all pages have every shape from page 1, and one has tricky side-ways shapes and new shapes that the player may or may not know yet at all. <br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Let's start off with the legalities:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sesame Works is the owner of all things Sesame Street, my sad renderings were not created by Jim Henson or any Sesame Works affiliates. Please do not sell this product, or claim that the images included are "Sesame Street (anything)" for the purpose of selling any part of this download. Yayaya. Did I cover it all? Cool. Let's get really started!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
:)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
..., I made my own game!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH8G7YPj5UA7XFNjUm_seLSjCZ_BvsPUr5X_7lVhmqzQ__DBhuyIMGZEFAD01rSzjJUL3A-4eaTVbdjhvRZpZXdKM5RxLGTXxjxIc7JApoZT8SNmiFrR-zlwqeYg4TPvNchIzg1OBBK7g/s1600/CAM01898.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH8G7YPj5UA7XFNjUm_seLSjCZ_BvsPUr5X_7lVhmqzQ__DBhuyIMGZEFAD01rSzjJUL3A-4eaTVbdjhvRZpZXdKM5RxLGTXxjxIc7JApoZT8SNmiFrR-zlwqeYg4TPvNchIzg1OBBK7g/s1600/CAM01898.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then it went nuts! It started as a simple 6 sectioned board/page, each section marked with it's own color. I used the colors from the rainbow (red-purple) and then I made little "medallions" with character faces on them to match up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That turned out okay, so I kept going...now it's a full game with 26 medallions with 4 skill levels, and now it's bilingual (Sp/En)!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizkeKP58wtqrXD3wg5d5B7nUA7OCgX0hgFXit8DrVtueXZLw-4h07a-bjgbPkiO0CJuZjl_XhRTwGqieg5wFOLuBUYYI7WFnlfGT5rAbqkBqP6gsXSG4249v2sf08t_geiWnBMVMa8Oco/s1600/CAM01899.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizkeKP58wtqrXD3wg5d5B7nUA7OCgX0hgFXit8DrVtueXZLw-4h07a-bjgbPkiO0CJuZjl_XhRTwGqieg5wFOLuBUYYI7WFnlfGT5rAbqkBqP6gsXSG4249v2sf08t_geiWnBMVMa8Oco/s1600/CAM01899.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
If I had to give this an age range, I would say that this is for 18 months and up. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
PDF download file has 5 pages, one 6 section board, 3 pages of medallions and 1 page of instructions.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
The instructions are in Spanish for this one, but it's simple: 1.) print, 2.)cut out circles (medallions) but not the ones from the 6 sectioned board! 3.) Match medallions color to board section colors.</div>

Note:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
**As the levels progress you will find that some medallions have more than one color or have "shades" that allow them to belong to several categories. Grow baby brains, GROW!!!**</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
Meet my new Diaper Stacker! It was born of necessity this afternoon!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Today, while Mommy took a (literally) 5 minutes to throw lunch together (in the kitchen, two rooms away from the living-room) Dinky decided to pull more than 20 Luv's out of their packaging and onto my living-room floor to make a diaper+pillow fort!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Though I did think that it was cute and I did take a video of him playing "King of the Castle" for his dad, I was still a little put-off by knowing that now the diapers were paper toys and would be ripped to shreds within the hour if I did not put a halt to this!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, Mommy made Dinky very mad by confiscating his fluffy gains and placing them in a plastic grocery bag high up on a shelf until I could figure out what to do with them!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had an idea (the finished product is pictured above and has directions below) and I ran it by my craftier-than-me sister (Jamie Sue). She said that she thought that it might work, and could I find a how-to on-line. I couldn't. Not for my needs and not to fit my less-than-impressive things-that-are-already-on-hand list.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
So, I worked it out in my head, took pictures as I went and prayed for the best!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Materials that I used:</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*1 old button-up shirt from the back of Daddy's drawer (it was already missing the arms, which was an awesome plus!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*1 pair of sharp scissors</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*1 carpet knife (a sharp knife that can cut card board)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*1 heavy card board box (to be cut up to reinforce the bottom)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*1 something with a flat edge (I used the back of a wooden puzzle) for keeping your line straight when you cut the fringe</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*1 clothes hanger </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now we are ready!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi271b-PDd0UI910wF8ZaolCIJ-5yc8Ao9A3VTxrw2VSLQmLiiUpveYEVT4aWpRN-54WduJdupEsxYshu7L4Q1fQSvcvjAFrKMeaKtA6eYiZD4OdxABEJWRBKkarYUgx1ZLW2q_qbYymMs/s1600/CAM01881.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi271b-PDd0UI910wF8ZaolCIJ-5yc8Ao9A3VTxrw2VSLQmLiiUpveYEVT4aWpRN-54WduJdupEsxYshu7L4Q1fQSvcvjAFrKMeaKtA6eYiZD4OdxABEJWRBKkarYUgx1ZLW2q_qbYymMs/s1600/CAM01881.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
This is how I got started (yes, I used my bed as a craft-table, because my table is currently very cluttered with other baby-craft-stuffs!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
First I spread out the shirt, I didn't iron it because the weight of the diapers and supplies will pull out the wrinkles later, and I am lazy like that.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I then laid my flat edge (Elmo puzzle board minus the pieces and flipped over) about 5 inches up the buttoned and flattened shirt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy_FtvWK_uVjhi80KBd8sibDLo2sxBRdJ2sdNPShSIj58qU2rHHO5Hw4HApMsc5UoiG4PPJlS5jVZcFOXmKXUe1WsAs43pgEBzpSYT2qCN978u6odhERkKbuRx-3gYHDPP0nViJUMcy7o/s1600/CAM01883.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgy_FtvWK_uVjhi80KBd8sibDLo2sxBRdJ2sdNPShSIj58qU2rHHO5Hw4HApMsc5UoiG4PPJlS5jVZcFOXmKXUe1WsAs43pgEBzpSYT2qCN978u6odhERkKbuRx-3gYHDPP0nViJUMcy7o/s1600/CAM01883.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next, I slit the side hem up to the board/marker's edge.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I went over about a half of an inch (I eye balled it) and made another cut as close up to the board as my scissors would go and moved the board up just a little to make the first and second sections even. Repeat the slices all the way across. (Cut front and back at the same time/one slice per section!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Note: by flipping them up into the board as I went I was able to keep them out of the way of my next cutting. Also, when you get to the middle, leave that thick button area as one piece, it's hard to cut!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgulybLqorepXsHZiGIRdXjevzMWRgCKmyJKqLnoBaiV6YO0AANpDmMpWjULZD1XFOQr1YpuS8-w5moSgHH3zpEzzHdujk1j2mPIHUjSTzxl3unO75wePRTPpy2LsJCDeETkuyVJYs2To/s1600/CAM01884.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgulybLqorepXsHZiGIRdXjevzMWRgCKmyJKqLnoBaiV6YO0AANpDmMpWjULZD1XFOQr1YpuS8-w5moSgHH3zpEzzHdujk1j2mPIHUjSTzxl3unO75wePRTPpy2LsJCDeETkuyVJYs2To/s1600/CAM01884.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(Here I was showing the slightly thicker piece of "button area"; it's the middle, it works out!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
At some point I had to slide my board over because it wasn't wide enough to cover the whole shirt from side-to-side. I was just careful to keep it in line.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzmVciAlK6vJGl2XzMT03rRW6ybO7RuiKYbSvWNAghK4NBFx-ferQJgF4N8iRgnwXS4HSov6fTke31kJTdm6PYBYwfFkBqoFRnR3S7nzR6ywE1ixGMuTmqH4bE7Re3wfdqrJ1bY8x8Zao/s1600/CAM01885.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzmVciAlK6vJGl2XzMT03rRW6ybO7RuiKYbSvWNAghK4NBFx-ferQJgF4N8iRgnwXS4HSov6fTke31kJTdm6PYBYwfFkBqoFRnR3S7nzR6ywE1ixGMuTmqH4bE7Re3wfdqrJ1bY8x8Zao/s1600/CAM01885.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After all of the slices have been made (completely across) then I started with the middle "button area slice" and made a double knot using the front and back matching "ribbons".</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I then moved from the middle to the right..., I don't have a reason for that, but it did make for a nice explanatory picture! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKmJvfc2kGaZIwsydLh4IN9t3fDEEVlZ0jvNsLzdLnfDpiq2_wmUfOKFHaRipLCgqX92JcnxKUAxZZFv-cmbrEjiYnal_T55koVaHY0pNr9P76gJkpMUa14RgeHcYHBEY69WHet3Cobgw/s1600/CAM01886.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKmJvfc2kGaZIwsydLh4IN9t3fDEEVlZ0jvNsLzdLnfDpiq2_wmUfOKFHaRipLCgqX92JcnxKUAxZZFv-cmbrEjiYnal_T55koVaHY0pNr9P76gJkpMUa14RgeHcYHBEY69WHet3Cobgw/s1600/CAM01886.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
How cute, these double knotted fringes are all the way across the bottom of the shirt. (It was the 80's fringe meets the 80's lumber jack there for a moment...good stuff!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now for the hard part!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I knew that it needed a base to make a "seat" for the diapers. I also knew that I was gonna use the sides of a diaper box, but I didn't know what size I need to fit into a size large shirt (or any shirt for that matter!)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
As a sizing guide I put the puzzle board inside and finagled it around until it was flat and the shirt looked about like a real diaper stacker. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The board was to long and a little to broad...now I had something to go on!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Using my board as a marker (yet again) I made a few cuts with my carpet knife through the box for my first attempt of getting my "hard bottom".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7SGMbr9Ra4ccoiciVvXaUZuQwQWeNmJEEKTOukk0J9dRNBwFHTlRKP38Sss-MTeqNPXJbjG1DyBnupPUhHZMMmKRKNg_HUsONw7ADIgrmfYjRnWBl-nfb904Rwa88zVa2ZYULf_rQXOY/s1600/CAM01887.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7SGMbr9Ra4ccoiciVvXaUZuQwQWeNmJEEKTOukk0J9dRNBwFHTlRKP38Sss-MTeqNPXJbjG1DyBnupPUhHZMMmKRKNg_HUsONw7ADIgrmfYjRnWBl-nfb904Rwa88zVa2ZYULf_rQXOY/s1600/CAM01887.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
I had to do this twice to get the size that I wanted.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I trimmed my card-boards edges and slapped her in there!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After that I just unbuttoned the top few buttons to insert the clothes hanger, then buttoned them back up and hung it on my wall!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Time to fill it up! I undone 3 of the middle buttons and put in the 20ish diapers and set my wipes on the top. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhr8hITm0PkO0FEX4LoZDz3cHO01hiWK4kNr-6tuQpPTBYubYo-QSZwz-Xh7cNcWsXnUum1B2DnrwQKVCenz0kjvbxMpGIqX4igW_NQ3vW7wMORNmwNxjiORAkDULmQebvYXVvwoG1aL8/s1600/CAM01890-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhr8hITm0PkO0FEX4LoZDz3cHO01hiWK4kNr-6tuQpPTBYubYo-QSZwz-Xh7cNcWsXnUum1B2DnrwQKVCenz0kjvbxMpGIqX4igW_NQ3vW7wMORNmwNxjiORAkDULmQebvYXVvwoG1aL8/s1600/CAM01890-1.jpg" height="320" width="296" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
That is when I noticed that I had side access through the arm holes! (SCORE!) The boy could reach the very bottom opening if I left it unbuttoned, but if it were closed all of time he couldn't and I can leave it closed all except to refill by grabbing what I need form the arm opening!!! (and it's two side accessible.)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bonus, there is a pocket on this shirt...the butt cream just got a new home!!!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I used this shirt and it matches my room, use any color, size, gender button-up shirt that you have on hand and make it fun! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Class it up with some puff paint of diapers pins...make it fit your style! :)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
You can't beat the price and it only took me like ten minutes total!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
**Here at ENGSPANOL CENTRAL (my house) the daddy (like most Hispanic males of his age group) owns tons of button-up shirts..., I may just have to perfect this design idea, clean his closets and hit Etsy! (LOL)**</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I never thought much of sleep when I was younger (life-before-motherhood)! I either got sleep or I didn't and my day went on regardless. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Now, as the mother of a very active toddler and the wife of a man who works 12-16 hour days in the summer (sometimes 6-7 days a week), sleep is a thing that treasure! (It's a rareity and a real treat to get!)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have been working on ways to catch more sleep (2-4 hours a night for better than 2 years at this point is not doing it for me!) Many nights I am up with a baby who has yet to learn to go to bed at any reasonable hour, until sometimes 2 AM, and up before my husband to prepare him for his day before 5 AM. I can't really be mad at the baby, he's a baby. Likewise I can't be upset that my husband relys on me to properly feed and coffee him before he starts his long hard day of outside, physical labor! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But there just had to be a way to make my time more efficient.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I already purchase the pre-cooked turkey sausage links (they are quick and easy), but I refuse to pay for pre-cooked scrambled eggs, pancakes, or french toast (they are quick and easy, but not much quicker, and a lot more expensive than home made.)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So, I would get up and start the half-caff coffee and the cook up some eggs, dice some fruit, microwave some sausage links, etc. for my man each and every morning! It wasn't hard, but it did take a some time and effort and I don't like to spend time or effort before I am even awake!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">All of that being said, a few weeks ago while I was cutting wheat bread into fourths (like little squares) and getting ready to mix some egg for my son's french toast and berries breakfast (one of his favorites) I thought to myself, "Why can't I just make more and freeze it? Then I can maybe sleep later?"..and then I giggled...sad, but true! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh, how little it takes to make me happy...and the thought of five more minutes of sleep tickled me to pieces!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In the two weeks since that initial thought hit me, I have learned that I can take 20-25 minutes a week to prepare pancake medallions (mini pancakes), french toast, oatmeal, and even scrambled eggs, in advance to put inside of individual zipper-sealing baggies and freeze a weeks worth of items. (I do two or three single "servings" per item.) </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">He can tell me what he wants to breakfast the night before and I just grab it in the AM and BAM! breakfast is served! I just empty the baggies onto/into plates or bowls, microwave them on high for 45 sec-1 min (according to what it is) and serve it with fruit! (PS, diced fruit lives nicely in small bowls in the fridge for like 3 days!)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I also started pre-filling my coffee maker with fresh coffee grounds and my water..., I just turn it on on my way to the bathroom! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am now effectively saving about 15 minutes a morning, and a lot of stress by giving up a little "free time" in exchange for a few more minutes of sleep! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">An exchange that I gladly make!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Note: When freezing food items, to keep food tasting fresh and hopefully avoiding freezer burn I always squeeze or roll as much excess air from the baggie before sealing!</span><br />

I was over at SpanishBaby today and I saw a link for a site called Read Conmigo (Read With Me) and they have free downloadable and printable books for their members!<br />
<br />
I just had to take a moment to check this out and boy am glad that I did!<br />
<br />
My little Dinky is now the owner/shredder of two new books that I just printed out! <br />
<br />
There are more than 20 titles to choose from, and below are pics of the two we chose today.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyv_BW6tjGeAeFFwspMEJ2K7ncTZdq3EX2a7JkNzp0DvqJz0LfXbJIUC1wQp70q7dl8hZZtFboBDfi69fS-J981A0TAFJ6q6gMaYcPSrwg_ucss9YBxKr213Zjg3_YuLSTV5W9sCsAadk/s1600/Maria+and+the+Family+Tree+RCM+Book+-+Cover_410+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyv_BW6tjGeAeFFwspMEJ2K7ncTZdq3EX2a7JkNzp0DvqJz0LfXbJIUC1wQp70q7dl8hZZtFboBDfi69fS-J981A0TAFJ6q6gMaYcPSrwg_ucss9YBxKr213Zjg3_YuLSTV5W9sCsAadk/s1600/Maria+and+the+Family+Tree+RCM+Book+-+Cover_410+(1).jpg" height="320" width="233" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRNZQQnZeFZvF2EvqGFJ-E8SPafujPUIU44H28fJH-K0d2StV7dsL_DhWCFND9CeD7VMjkYQGmQQRcIyrTdzUodNc3CBbqsitcV4fKhopnLfvzClD7GqI5OYwUMIgmuUA6ASD26j3eFs8/s1600/RCM-11-Nuts-Cover_thumb.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRNZQQnZeFZvF2EvqGFJ-E8SPafujPUIU44H28fJH-K0d2StV7dsL_DhWCFND9CeD7VMjkYQGmQQRcIyrTdzUodNc3CBbqsitcV4fKhopnLfvzClD7GqI5OYwUMIgmuUA6ASD26j3eFs8/s1600/RCM-11-Nuts-Cover_thumb.gif" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The selection is for Pre-K through grade 5. I picked these two, well, to be honest...the covers stole me! I know, I know, never judge a book by it's cover! But at Dinky's age (18 months), reading is more about quality time between the two of us and not so much on his ability to read...he can't yet, so that's a good that it's not based on that! ;)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyhow; this is a free service for bilingual families and teachers which is kindly offered by Infinity Insurance. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a site that I gladly joined!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thank you Infinity for this grand gesture and for recognizing the needs of our bilingual families! </div>

Today is the one year anniversary of the tragic disastrous day when tornado's ripped through Oklahoma. Shredding a town and lives as it went. <br />
<br />
Savethechildren.org has kindly offered up free poster downloads to help family and child care professionals to be better prepared for when disasters strike!<br />
<br />
These posters are available on the same page with options for "parents" and for "child care professionals" and both are offered in English or Spanish. And yes, they are free of charge. Simply download your choice(s) and print.<br />
<br />
Disasters happen when when and where they do, and usually there's not much time for last second planning. Being prepared may just save your family! <br />
<br />
Take care, be well, be prepared!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(She is 8 now, she has to look the part...yep, all grown up, and grown-ups are serious!)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My little niece had a birthday over the weekend. She is now 8. Wow. It seems like only yesterday that we were bowing our heads and trying not to laugh and/or hide our laughter as she formed her first big sentences. (This had nothing to do with her speech problems, and everything to do with her very adult view of the world at 3!)<br />
<br />
She is such a wonder and a joy!<br />
<br />
This year (every year she likes something new but this year it was do-able, last year it was firecrackers and rainbows...) her chosen theme was HELLO KITTY (a registered trademark of Sanrio). I could do this!<br />
<br />
My household, like many others around this great nation of ours is financially stessed. But, I knew that I could, with the help of my mother make this a party that she would remember, and not just because the fire trucks came! (They didn't really have to come before, but we did have 911 on speed dial and we were ready!)<br />
<br />
<br />
With about a $50 budget (that's cake and all), I started this journey to Party-of-Awesomeness about a month in advance! <br />
<br />
As most of you know, I moonlight over at my sisters blog (freeprintablefun.org) and I took every idea that I could from her and from the other folk's ideas that she has just hanging out over there waiting for broke aunties like me and ran with those free printables! <br />
<br />
I found some great invitations online (not a my sister's site, but I will likely link the site that I got them from from there, but it is below this picture if you would like to grab the too!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
I made these jug drink labels (They were water-proof water bottle labels, I just snagged the idea and changed it up a bit to suite my needs!) I printed up three sheets with 12 per page, cut them out, taped them on with clear box tape. They were a big hit!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdyeyX2g0_fn9HOIaX38kl3SkXpnvDVYoFWk6jgbEPmkglydlmT2R8Gl4r4G00sp207pZb4MgqgEezFuPMsq0H9MqpATYX6HQiF9KXnL4VVw7hzjZoU-rsp3-OPoV005LNKb-YliFXeWA/s1600/CAM01811%255B1%255D.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdyeyX2g0_fn9HOIaX38kl3SkXpnvDVYoFWk6jgbEPmkglydlmT2R8Gl4r4G00sp207pZb4MgqgEezFuPMsq0H9MqpATYX6HQiF9KXnL4VVw7hzjZoU-rsp3-OPoV005LNKb-YliFXeWA/s1600/CAM01811%255B1%255D.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I made a banner, there is a picture posted below, but it's really hard to see (it was quite windy yesterday in this crazy weather state..Kentucky.) But the banner consists of the letters H, A, P, P, & Y inside of their own independent pink heart with a Hello Kitty-ish bow-tie in a corner, and then Kitty's face at the top of rectangles and below her face are the letters spelling BIRTHDAY. We just stapled them side-by-side on a long peice of white yarn, then hung it. It was cute, but a little time consuming!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We had little "thank you for coming" bags of goodies for all of the kids, I grabbed up some things from the Dollar Tree (bracelets, whistles, candy, friendship rings) and then I put in bookmarks (one's that I had created and posted on earlier post for the Summer Reading and a few Hello Kitty one's that I created just for her day!) There was also a little kiddy-sized two-sided fan-on-a-stick in each baggy.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We pulled it all together with pink plates and spoons (Dollar Tree), white plastic table clothes (Walmart), pastel pink candles (including the "8" candle) from the Dollar Tree, and then some pink, white, black and a few red (we had the red and black left over from last year) balloons that we filled with helium. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was a HUGE hit! Total cost (missing a few receipts, so it's a ball park price) : Rounded up...$37.00 WOW! :)</div>

Okay, in my world there are people who speak in English and people who speak Spanish, and the count is about 50-50. <br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When people show up at my door at what should be an acceptable time (2:00 P.M. for example) but my baby is taking a nap, do they really have to knock like there is a violent emergency?!?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I wrote a little note to tell people (in both languages) when he was taking a nap and hung it on our front door. That worked sometimes, just not so well when it rained. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
After that was a wash (pun intended), I decided to write up another sign and laminate it. But then that seemed like a a lot of work for something crude. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Okay, I'd buy one. They have signs for <i>everything</i> and I have the internet...good plan!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Nope. They have a thousand signs for "Shh...Baby's Sleeping" in English, and a few of the equivilant in Spanish, but none for less than $5. And the ones in that price range were actually things for me to download and print myself! And I didn't find any in both languages!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Really? I have to press a number to get someone who (roughly) speaks English, everything now-a-days comes in both languages!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well, everything but what I need! And especially not for FREE....isn't there enough blogger moms and crafty people that there should be at least one free copy of just about anything that a person can print?!?!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Again, please let me say that this is not actually a craft page. But it would seem to me that for those of us who live in that land-in-between that is ENGSPANOL we need things, and we don't have them; it is therefore up to us to help each other out so that we are all in the "have's"!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, here are a few household signs that we can all plastic-sleeve, laminate or just thumb tack as-is in and around our homes when needed. Just click the link below the pictures to go download then print. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope that these are helpful to you and yours! :)</div>

Okay, it's starting to warm up without being to hot for parents and kiddies to invite other kiddies to have a play date at the park or in the backyard (let's avoid as much inside mess as possible, right parents?!?)<br />
<br />
My family has friends and family that speak English only, some that are solidly Spanish speaking and others that are flexibly bilingual! <br />
<br />
Though I don't intend on inviting <i>every </i>kid we know (no matter what language(s) they or their families speak) on the same day there is no reason not to have invitations that cater to all of Dinky's little friends and their parents.<br />
<br />
So, for any combination of these two languages, I am prepared! <br />
<br />
Here are pictures and below each is a link to the download. (Downloads are separate.) <br />
<br />
*There are 4 invites per sheet (only a single invite shown per each in the pictures below.)<br />

To all of moms here in the states, "Happy Mother's Day/Feliz Día de la Madre!" To my mama's in Mexico (the native land of the hubby), "Día de la Madre tardía feliz, siento que me perdí ayer!" <br />
<br />
Yesterday was "Mother's Day" in Mexico and I totally missed it. I am so sorry.<br />
<br />
Gracias to all of the mothers, stepmothers, foster-care moms, 'women who raise kids that they didn't birth and love them anyways"...Thank you all (no matter where in the world you are!) :) </div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Now this is an easy to make, super awesome game time treat! </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>And nothing tells the men in our lives how much we care like them thinking that we have cooked for them all day and not only that...that the fact that the thing we made during that "labor of love" is sports related! (They don't know that this is almost instant, and please don't tell them!)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>The next thing up for grabs is a can-cozy cover-up. Most men have that one, or two, or seven dirty, old, grimed-up can cozy(ies) that they lug around with cans or bottles of soda (or what-have-you) in them. We, as the women in their lives have a responsibility to remedy this..(without causing a war!)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>I have our solution! I read that if you put wide, clear tape (like clear packing tape) over paper on a room temp. water bottle, it becomes a water-proof label for water bottles...okay. Now, let's make trivial bit of nothing work for us! </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>We over-haul the stinky, grimy can cozies using this same concept!</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>This is how this works:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Step 1.) Sanitize said cozy (throw it in the dish water, add bleach if needed and scrub like the dickens!)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Step 2.) Let the clean cozy get nice and dry, and make sure it is still all intact (or mostly so.)</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSOldMBnLQ0d489jZMvW95MBlkgpXpaAc6n6ZopUdR3_jK9RsbvUASkoepp7pXLIkQ-upAuDIHAk27Lt9A0fgp2F-1mY17JWe-Jj5dGyQ0P61IIQYmmmS0883-jAzMaeSjAug4r4pth4I/s1600/cancover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSOldMBnLQ0d489jZMvW95MBlkgpXpaAc6n6ZopUdR3_jK9RsbvUASkoepp7pXLIkQ-upAuDIHAk27Lt9A0fgp2F-1mY17JWe-Jj5dGyQ0P61IIQYmmmS0883-jAzMaeSjAug4r4pth4I/s1600/cancover.jpg" height="136" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><u><span style="color: red;"><a href="http://1drv.ms/1kUssdQ" target="_blank">Stephanie's Cozy Cover-up</a></span></u></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Step 3.) Download and print out this free cozy cover(shown directly above, but not actual size) and cut it out.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Step 4.) Fit this as best as you can around the clean, dry cozy (there may be extra "cozy" exposed, for this just make sure that the old wording and/or the biggest stains are covered, or if there is no decent space to leave bare...cut off a piece of left over scrap paper to the same height and big enough to fill the gap, use a small piece or two of clear tape (scotch-tape will work for this) to hold it (the cover-up paper) in place.</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Step 5.) Snugly yet carefully stretch wider clear tape (the clear packing/boxing type tape) all the way around making sure that no paper is left exposed. (This may take several pieces, according to how wide your tape is.)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Done. It's covered and the design won't be easily effected by spillage AND at least SOME of the nasty is hidden! (and he's probably not even mad about it!)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Let's show our men some love...and make it look like it was hard work! ;) I won't tell them that the cupcakes are a quick and easy snap to make, or that the cover-ups weren't your idea and design! Shoot, claim that fame! (It makes them feel good to know that they are important enough for you to go through ALL of that TROUBLE and put in all that HARD WORK just for them!)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Super Andy and his friends work at the doctors office and they help keep an eye on things and they help us to stay healthy or get better if we are feeling down.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Trips to the doctor's office for a check-up, the clinic for shots, or the hospital can be very scary and very confusing for our little guys and gals. I created these characters to help explain the role that these "helpers" play in getting well and/or staying well. </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I made these for my sister's blog over at Free Printable Fun For Everyone, there are links below to the English copy of this book, and a link to the Spanish copy as well.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<i>Los viajes a la oficina del médico para un chequeo, la clínica para los tiros, o en el hospital puede ser muy aterrador y muy confuso para nuestros pequeños chicos y chicas.
